ATM units have to provide a service to the public; however, to the Financial Markets they have to provide a secure stand alone dispensing facility for cash. All of these have to be achieved whilst meeting the marketing and corporate image of the Bank or Building Society.

Being a cash dispenser is now not the only function, as many units allow depositing and access to financial information. The new generation of units will provide Customer Service Points from which a separate terminal will allow access to the full range of products available from the Bank or Building Society.

The financial institutions are now the only one looking to be more accessible. Community Kiosks often shared by Council Social Services and the Police are being installed in many areas.
